Great around the holidays, or any time at all. Similar to Chex Mix, Grandma's Scrapple mix is a delicious treat for young and old.

The following recipe is so easy to make; it can be executed by anyone, including first time cooks! This recipe uses classic ingredients to make a spectacular, hearty mix. It is versatile, too and one can additional nuts or cereals the mix. This is the perfect snack recipe to pull out and make for family holiday gatherings and potlucks. This recipe comfortably serves 10-12 individuals. Grandma’s Holiday Scrapple Mix recipe yields delicious results every time and is extremely easy and fun to cook.

Grandma’s Holiday Scrapple Mix

Difficulty: Easy

Prep Time: about 15 minutes plus 1 hour baking

Serves: 10-12+

Ingredients:

  • 2 ½ cups wheat chex cereal
  • 3 cups rice chex cereal
  • 2 cups cheerio’s cereal
  • 1 package of straight pretzels
  • 1 cup pecans, cashews, or mixed nuts.
  • strips of bacon (for grease only)
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 ½ tablespoons Worchester sauce
  • ¼ teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder.

Execution:

  1. Preheat oven to 225 degrees
  2. Cook bacon over medium high heat until all of the fat has cooked out of the meat. Reserve the fat in a separate dish, there should be about ¼ a cup.
  3. Combine all of the dry ingredients in a large roasting pan. A pan that is metal, deep, and able to be covered by a lid.
  4. In a medium-size saucepan, combine: bacon fat, butter, Worchester sauce, chili powder, soy sauce and garlic. Heat over medium to medium high heat until blended.
  5. Slowly pour mixture over dry ingredients in the roasting pan. Shake the pan intermittently to encourage even distribution of the sauce. When all of the sauce is on the dry ingredients, cover the pan with its lid, and shake for 30-45 seconds.
  6. Put roasting pan in the preheated oven and bake for an hour. Within the hour, check in on the roasting pan and shake it every 20 minutes. Careful, the roasting pan will be hot.
  7. After the Scrapple mix has finished baking, pour it out onto a flat level surface on top of a layer of clean paper towels.
  8. Salt (optional)
  9. Allow the Scrapple mix to cool before storing in an air-tight container.
  10. Enjoy!
